The 777 Writer’s Challenge: The House of Diviners

September 8, 2015

So one of my partners-in-crime and storyteller extraordinaire, H.M. Jones, has tagged me as part of the 777 writer’s challenge.

It’s a cool way to get a sneak peek at what other writers are up to. It involves taking the 7th line from the 7th page of the 7th paragraph of my current work in progress and sharing it.

I’m going to confess right now that this girl has been busy with five children, battling stomach flu, and some of those pesky little life details that can get in the way of writing 🙂 So, I’m like…sort of on page one of my WIP (work in progress).

Okay, don’t stone me just yet!

Now, I’m going to share with you the 7th or 7th-ish line from what I do have. Deal?

Book Title

House of Diviners (The Diviners, #1)

Book Description

Kelsey Jackson Diviner is a shaman–a walker between worlds, a healer and protector.
But when she witnesses the gruesome death of one of her own, it turns out that she’s the one who needs protection.
Someone has disturbed the delicate balance between the human world and the spirit world, which draws the attention of the black dagger god, a clandestine paranormal society, and a dangerous shadow witch seeking to claim her birthright.

My 7th-ish Line (okay, a little more than that)

That prickly sensation on Kelsey’s tongue reminded her that an imbalance still hung in the spirit world. If she were there instead of in the physical world, her mouth would be on fire and her other senses would be going haywire. But she felt sorry for Sage, and she didn’t like going back on a promise.

“Don’t you smoke?” The other woman sat in the passenger seat, rummaging through Kelsey’s glove compartment.

“No. Can’t stand the smell.” For crying out loud, lady. We’ve got a crap load of other worries on our hands!

Sage let out a deep, throaty chuckle–a testament to the fact that she should’ve quit smoking a long time ago. “I guess it doesn’t matter.”

I promise I’ll be working on this so I can get the full story published soon! Thank you all for your amazing encouragement, comments, and support 🙂
