Time Travel Movies Should Look Like This

Time Travel Novels | Masters of Time

There are very few time travel movies (or shows) that I would pass up. I love them! Whether it’s the original Terminator or the latest episode of 12 Monkeys, there’s just something about bending Time that draws me in.

First, because I think the prospect is entertaining and fascinating, and second, let’s admit, there’s a lot we’d like to go back and change if we had the power to. But what really makes a great time travel story (in my humble opinion) is when your perfect little plan unravels and you have to figure out how to undo the damage you’ve done.

This is what a great time travel movie (or book) should touch upon. Going back and forward in time has its consequences, and it can be dangerous and upset the “natural order” of the universe. And when the natural order is messed with, it will come back to bite you in the tush.

If we don’t get to see or read the conflict, of what can go wrong when we choose to manipulate time, I think it takes away the great power such a story can hold. In Masters of Time (A Science Fiction and Fantasy Time Travel Anthology), Andy believes he will most likely fail or disappear–but he’s willing to try and save his dead girlfriend. Can he? Agent January Fogarty hunts criminals across time but ends up becoming the prey. A steadfast woman shows us how the willingness to sacrifice for others can bring forth a second chance.

These are just some of the stories in the anthology that I am proud to have been a contributor to. Each story has its own voice and unique take on time travel. If you haven’t read Masters of Time yet, please give it a try and let me know what you think!
